An Introduction to the Parker 51 Collection
The original Parker 51 fountain pen was first released in 1941 to commemorate Parker's 51st anniversary (1939). It's thought that Parker wanted the range to be memorable around the same time as the development of Route 51 in Janesville. The collection has featured a vast range of styles and finishes, including today's modern alternative that continues the legacy of the Parker 51.
About the Nib
The Parker 51 nib is very special, taking inspiration from the design of aviation transport. In the early days, Parker made products from Lucite, a plastic/resin material also used to develop fighter jets. They also have a similar shape to the conical front of the planes. This nib is made from precious resin in the classic Parker 51 style with its signature hooded tip. The metal trim is 23K gold plated, while the writing point is solid 18K gold.
Which pens will this nib fit?
This nib is compatible with modern Parker 51 fountain pens with a black barrel. Sadly, it is not compatible with older models, as the barrels differ in size from current versions.
How to change the nib
- Step 1: You first need to unscrew the grip section/nib from the barrel of your pen
- Step 2: You can remove the ink cartridge or converter from the nib. At this stage, we also recommend cleaning the old nib if you wish to keep it, and the converter if you plan to re-use it.
- Step 3: You can then insert an ink cartridge or converter into your new nib and screw it into the barrel of your pen.
- Step 4: Enjoy!
Fun Fact & Top Tip: Parker 51 Nibs are one of the most reliable and don't dry out. We do recommend regular cleaning, even if you use your pen every day. A thorough clean will prolong the life of your pen.
